Frequently asked questions
Where is my data stored?
Your files are stored in Norway, or a country with equal or stricter data-protection law. Today they sit in our datacenter in Stavanger, Norway. No copies of your files cross the Atlantic, not even metadata or indexing. We chose Scandinavian hosting so we can say exactly which laws apply to your files.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep access until the end of the subscription period, so download your files before it runs out. They are stored as ordinary files in their original format, so you can take them anywhere. After expiry the account closes, but your files are still there for a while: write to customer service within 21 days and we can usually reopen it.
Can you read my files?
No. We don't sell user data. Files are encrypted with 256-bit AES in transit (TLS) and at rest in our datacenter in Stavanger, Norway — outside US jurisdiction.
Does it work with my iPhone and PC at the same time?
Yes. Onlime has apps for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android, a command-line tool for Linux, plus a web app that works in any browser. The same file syncs across all your devices in the background, so you can start on the laptop and continue on the phone.
What about RAW photos from my camera?
Onlime stores your RAW files in their original format and resolution — no compression, no quality loss. We support all common RAW formats: CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG, and more.
How long do you keep deleted files?
Deleted files stay in the trash for 30 days, on every plan. We also keep the 5 most recent versions of each file, so you can bring back an earlier version even when nothing was deleted.
Can I share files with people without Onlime?
Yes. You can share files and folders with a link, whatever the size or number. Recipients don't need an Onlime account, and you can always revoke the link.
Is Onlime a Danish company?
Yes. Onlime was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in Vejle. We're a Danish company, owned by Danish shareholders, and our support team speaks Danish.
